Kindred Arts in Collaboration with the 10th Council District, Hosts Monumental Tour

Kindred Arts created a bridge with the 10th Council District to host a Monumental Tour exhibit within South Los Angeles.
The collective community has access to new art found within the Leimert Park Plaza and beyond.
The reveal of the new art piece was on Thursday, February 10, showcasing “Symbols of Black Empowerment and African American Histories,” in reflection of Black History Month.
In honor of Black History, the Monumental Tour arrived in Los Angeles to showcase marks of “Black Autonomy and African American Legacies.”
Leadership in attendance included Marsha Reid, executive director of Kindred Arts; Ibert Schultz, CD 10 senior deputy for Strategic Initiatives; Karen Mack, CEO of LA Commons, and artist Coby Kennedy.
The expo will feature works from several celebrated artists including Arthur Jafa, Coby Kennedy, Christopher Myers, and Hank Willis Thomas, and will mainly be displayed in South Los Angeles across the 10th Council District.
Paying homage to the significance of February, Kindred Arts and 10th Council District have debuted a mobile art installation inspiring transformational movement created by the hands of African American artists.
The creations are displayed in carefully curated public areas, to draw attention to each artist's different style that honors and explores aspects of Black Culture. The carvings welcome viewers to contemplate concepts like colonization, injustice, entitlement, "Black middle-class labor," and the downturn of the economy.
Each project generates an opportunity to discover and connect with a narrative that one may not have encountered personally, but continues to influence African American History, today.

“The exhibit launched on February 12, 2022, and remain on display through May 2022, at four locations: ‘All Power to the People’ by Hank Willis Thomas will be located at Leimert Park Plaza; ‘Caliban's Hands’ by Christopher Myers will be located at Benny Potter Park; ‘Big Wheel IV’ by Arthur Jafa will be located at Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (Installation date pending); and ‘The Box’ by Colby Kennedy will be located at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy.”
