The Delta variant surge has led to mandates for proof of vaccinations and/or weekly testing among federal employees, healthcare workers and City employees in major cities. Private businesses and some restaurants are also requesting for proof of vaccinations from customers. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) continues to share information on the availability of vaccines for the community.
“Vaccinations are widely available throughout L.A. County and are free of charge to anyone, regardless of their country of origin or immigration status,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, director of Public Health. “Many sites are open on weekends and have evening hours and government IDs and/or insurance are not needed. Because of the high rate of community transmission in L.A. County and across the nation, increasing vaccination rates is critically important to curtailing the Delta variant. It is never too late to get vaccinated and get protected.”
Earlier this week, 772 sites were offering vaccinations including pharmacies, clinics, community sites, and hospitals and 312 mobile teams, concentrated in underserved areas. Many sites are open on weekends with evening hours available for vaccinations and can be obtained at many sites without an appointment. Community healthcare workers are sharing information with residents in multiple languages, scheduling appointments, transportation and additional support. Public Health has encouraged the public to visit Find a Vaccination Provider page to request a visit at workplaces, organizations, or special events from a mobile vaccination unit or other vaccination partners in the community to provide vaccines.
As of Monday, August 2, Public Health reported five new deaths and stated 2,361 new cases of COVID-19. There were 1,096 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 with 17% of nearly 7,350,000 individuals testing positive with symptoms.
Public Health identified 1,305,704 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 24,690 deaths. Cases across the Southland: Los Angeles County shows 1,237,942 cases, Long Beach with 55,885 cases and Pasadena with 11,877 cases.
According to race and ethnicity, COVID-19 statistics show: American Indian/Alaska Native with 2,099; Asian with 59,147; Black with 54,189; Hispanic/Latino with 651,788; Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander with 4,515; White with 141,883; those of other race and ethnicity with 105,287 and 219,034 under investigation.
