Congresswoman Laura Richardson launches general election campaign

Hundreds of community members and friends come out to support Richardson’s bid for re-election, Congresswoman fights to keep historic Congressional Black Caucus seat in California
Rep. Laura Richardson (D-California) kicked off her campaign for re-election on Saturday, September 8 in Carson, Calif. Currently representing the 37th Congressional District, the Congresswoman is now running in the newly created 44th district, which includes the cities of Carson, Compton, North Long Beach, Watts, Walnut Park, Lynwood, and portions of South Los Angeles.
Supported by both the Congressional Black Caucus, which has identified the 44th district as a Voting Rights Act seat in danger of being lost, and the California Legislative Black Caucus, Congresswoman Richardson has earned the support of minority communities through Southern California including African-Americans, Latinos, and Asian Pacific Islanders.
Congresswoman Richardson currently represents 58 percent of the newly created 44th Congressional District, making her the natural incumbent. First elected to Congress in 2007, Congresswoman Richardson became the first person in United States history to serve at the local, state, and federal level in the span of less than one year. Rep. Richardson is a member of International Association of Machinists, giving her the distinction being the first Machinist elected to Congress.
The 44th Congressional District includes the cities of Carson, Compton, South Gate, Lynwood, and the communities of Watts, Wilmington, San Pedro, northern Long Beach, and Walnut Park.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 6.
