In April 2014, City of Flint, under orders from the State of Michigan, temporarily switched its water supply from Detroit Water and Sewage Department to the Flint River. This caused seepage of lead into the water supply from an antiquated water pipe system. Currently, up to 12,000 Flint residents have high levels of lead in their bloodstream because of this seepage. This also caused an outbreak of Legionella – a bacterial disease. As a result of the Legionella, 10 people have died and another 77 have been infected. To date tens of thousands of cases of water have been donated for the citizens to drink and use for bathing but the people of Flint are still in need of other items such as food, medical care, and access to high quality education, which the donation from Kappa Alpha Psi can help to address.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. was founded in 1911 on the campus of Indiana University.
