BILL PICKETT INVITATIONAL RODEO—The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo took place on July 19 at the Industry Hills Expo Center in the City of Industry as part of the national tour. The show featured many well-known black cowgirls and cowboys, who showed out with Tie Down Ropin’, Bull Doggin’ and Barrel Racin’, among other events. Bill Pickett, (1870-1932) became the first African American cowboy to be inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame. To date, Pickett remains the best-known rodeo performer of color.
