Troy Vaughn, president and CEO of Los Angeles Mission, along with sponsor Suitcase Joe, and many volunteers, organizers, chefs, celebrities, and elected officials, helped to make this Thanksgiving a memorable one for the residents of L.A.’s Skid Row.

This year’s event took place on Thursday, November 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sam Rubin was the host, and the time of giving back to the community began with a special performance by the legendary hip-hop group Digital Underground.

Those generously volunteering their time to give back to the community included Mayor-elect Karen Bass, actor Nick Cannon, County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, Sheriff-elect Robert Luna, former L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and many other notable celebrities.

Young Hump of the legendary hip-hop group Digital Underground was the DJ, and R&B artist Nakia Gold and the Westlake High School Jazz Band performed at 11 am to kick off the event.

Vaughn stated, “We are very intentional at the L.A. Mission, both now and in the future, to really be about transforming our community and we want to demonstrate that change right here at our house first.”

Vaughn remains grateful for the staff and volunteers. He makes it clear to the residents of Skid Row that he is a servant leader, here to serve them.  Vaughn is also known for appreciating every donation. As a formerly homeless resident himself, he is well-known for the phrase, “He went from a resident to the president.”

Last year, the L.A. Mission was able to feed over 600,000 people.  Donations help the Mission to continue to prepare meals, clothing, and shelter, as well as all that it takes to transform individual lives for the better.
