The 7th annual StarQuest Singing Competition took place this past weekend on The Hyundai Soundstage Saturday, Oct. 20 at the 13th annual Taste of Soul Family Festival.

 

The contest included five child contestants:

 

• Auriana Chisholm

 

• Chloe Wedge

 

• Helen Esparrago aka “Bluani”

 

• Jhala Angelique

 

• Laniyah Garcia who was also the online winner

 

And five adult contestants:

 

• Allisonne Crawford

 

• Kyree Sterling

 

• Melissa Figueroa

 

• Sonya Parker a/k/a Mz Sunnie Daye

 

• Marcio Donaldson who was also selected as the online winner

 

 

 

StarQuest Host

 

Marcel Spears was the host of the StarQuest stage.  He’s a New Orleans native, graduate of Prairie View A&M University, holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia University and has appeared in a number of stage plays around the country.  He co-starred in the sitcom, “The Mayor” and he’s now co-starring in the comedy “The Neighborhood,” every Monday night at 8 p.m. on CBS.

 

All performers brought their A-games but only two (one child and one adult) could emerge victorious. The winners were announced as follows:

 

StarQuest 4 Kids Winner

 

Jhala Angelique is an 11-year-old child prodigy. She is a multi-talented up and coming singer, author, actress and model. Look for her book series “I AM...” coming to you soon! She was also a 2017 StarQuest 4 Kids finalist. 

 

StarQuest Adult Winner

 

Marcio Donaldson is a recording artist who has been singing since the age of six.  He was also on show  Showtime at  the Apollo at the tender age 13.
