LAWT Staff Report

For the past 11 years, Taste of Soul has grown to become the largest street festival, family celebration and economic engine in all of Los Angeles.  This year the USC Trojans have decided to join in the celebration.  “The University of Southern California (USC) is proud to partner with the Taste of Soul Family Festival.  Our participation is evidence of our desire to help celebrate the importance of the extraordinary cultural event,” said USC Vice President of Civil Engagement Earl Paysinger.

The Trojans will be one of this year’s sponsors and USC is planning to show off a number of the programs that it offers and has been offering to the community for years.

“USC is a major institution within this community,” said Danny J. Bakewell, Sr. Founder/Creator of Taste of Soul and Executive Publisher of the Los Angeles Sentinel and L.A. Watts Times.

“Many people, when they think of USC, they only think of football here in our community. But, I have learned first-hand that USC is so much more.  We are very pleased to have USC join Taste of Soul in this year’s Family Affair themed festival and we look forward to a long a continuous partnership with the University.”

While final plans are still underway, USC Black Student Association and Black Alumni Association will certainly have a roll in this year’s celebration showing off their mentorship and scholarship programs, centered on helping to increase USC Black Student population, and a number of community service programs that USC offers throughout the year.
