Over 1,500 students in Compton came out Saturday to receive free backpacks and school supplies from rapper and native son Keenon "YG" Jackson's 4HundredWaze Foundation. Held in partnership with Compton Mayor Aja Brown and the City of Compton, students received backpacks filled with various school supplies and were treated to an impromptu concert with YG at the Compton airport.

“I especially want to thank YG, YG's mother Shonee Jackson, the 4Hundred Waze Foundation, MadMac Foundation, Tomorrow Aeronautical Museum and all of the sponsors that helped make this possible,” said Mayor Aja Brown. “As small as a backpack and school supplies may seem, they are the tools needed to help guarantee a brighter future tomorrow for students. Some students do not have access to the basic supplies needed to be successful and I am happy we are coming together as a community and family to assure our students are prepared and ready to learn! "

On Sat. Sep. 10, rapper Problem will host “Chachi Cares Back 2 School Compton Community Day” in partnership with Mayor Aja Brown, the City of Compton and L.A.’s Power 106 providing backpacks and school supplies. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Douglas Dollarhide Community Center located at 301 N. Tamarind Avenue.
