The Los Angeles Police Department Operations-South Bureau will host a series of town hall meetings on crime starting this week.

The first in the series, focused on human trafficking and internet crimes against children, is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the EXPO Center of the John C. Argue Swim Stadium at 3980 Bill Robertson Lane.

Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck, Deputy Chief William Scott, Cmdr. Phillip Tingirides and Cmdr. Regina Scott are among the speakers scheduled to offer information about recent crime trends and public safety.

"The goal of the Town Hall Series is to educate the community on alternatives to violence and to glean advice, concerns and recommendations on deterring crime, public safety, and community policing," according to an LAPD statement.
