Queen Latifah named honorary chair for 9th annual TOS Festival
Los Angeles’ largest street festival which exceeded one million attendees after eight years, Taste of Soul has named Queen Latifah as honorary chair of the 9th annual street festival set for Saturday Oct. 18 on Crenshaw Blvd.
Latifah, the emerging daytime talk show hostess is a multi dynamic star who brings a universal appeal to Taste of Soul. She is the first person chosen as honorary chair.
This year will mark her second appearance at Taste of Soul. Latifah made an impromptu visit to the event two years ago with her mother to show support of the community event that celebrates Black culture.
A singer-songwriter, rapper, actress, model, television producer, record producer and now talk show hostess of The Queen Latifah Show, she has consistently grown her brand and elevated her commitment to culture and diversity.
Her show was renewed on the heels of a strong first season and the series has been out rating all other new talk shows to enter the playing field, a strong indication that she could soon become the queen of daytime television.
Long considered one of hip-hop’s pioneer feminists, Latifah’s work in music, film, and television has earned her a Golden Globe award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, a Grammy Award, six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination.

“Queen Latifah personifies the essence of Black culture, unapologetically with grace and dignity that’s befitting of the queen of Black progress and empowerment. It is a tremendous honor that she would accept our invitation to be Honorary Chair at the 9th annual Taste of Soul. I always want to remember and honor those who have never forgotten about our community,” stated Bakewell Sr.
Taste of Soul Los Angeles unfolds annually in October on Crenshaw Blvd. and features a bevy of culinary taste, which highlights Black culture, music, song and dance.
Founded by Bakewell Sr., Taste of Soul is presented by the Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper and benefits several South L.A. non-profit organizations. Taste of Soul is a free family-friendly event hosted in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, Radio Free 102.3 KJLH, and 94.7 The Wave.
