Arts & Culture Ebony.com and CoverGirl Cosmetics sponsor ‘Lipstick on the Mic’ Pop Up Concert in Hollywood; Rising superstar Andra Day makes waves performing at the secret concert

For three years running, “Lipstick on the Mic” has succeeded in providing a platform for up and coming talent on the R&B and Hip Hop scenes. Since 2011 the event has featured artists such as Marsha Ambrosius, Tweet, Leah Labelle, RaVaughn, Stacy Barthe and Elle Varner.
Thursday, March 27 Ebony.com and CoverGirl Cosmetics sponsored this year’s “Lipstick on the Mic” with a pop up concert in Hollywood, California at the open-air venue Space 15 Twenty.
The cozy Urban Outfitters curated space was decked out with a funky stage housing a live band and a DJ. Around the perimeter of the venue were makeup stations courtesy of CoverGirl cosmetics where guests could play with several of the company’s products. An open bar poured up VitaFrute drinks provided courtesy of VeeV liquor.
Hollywood’s “who’s who” converged on Thursday for the secret concert. From artists and press to stylists, and social media gurus the crowd was full of taste makers and trendsetters, all big fans of R&B music.
Guests were in for a treat with performances from three immensely talented rising stars.
Dead Right an electro R&B fusion duo hit the stage first starting the night off with a bang. The group is comprised of Graham and Alex who met while under the same management umbrella. The chemistry the pair created was undeniable so they formed a group and Thursday, guests couldn’t have been more pleased they did. The performance rocked the crowd.
Rising star Andra Day took the stage next in a bright red lipstick, which she told the Sentinel she was ready to “smear all over the mic!” The San Diego-bred singer and songwriter has an eye-catching look that mixes elements of the 1940’s blues era with a modern funky twist. Her charming style still couldn’t outshine her amazing voice. Day won over the crowd with her brassy, alluring and sultry vocals serving first a cover of an Amy Winehouse song followed by an original piece of her own. Day ended her performance stealing the crowd’s heart with a sultry rendition of the Biggie Smalls hit “Big Poppa.”
Last but certainly not least was hip-hop/pop sensation MAAD*Moiselle. Moiselle whose worked with Drake among others rocked the crowd with an upbeat wild fun-loving performance. Moiselle was all over the stage giving the crowd a reason to dance.
