The LA84 Foundation announced today that it is giving out $1 million in grants to Southern California school-based and community youth sports organizations as part of its November grant cycle.

The foundation said it has awarded $3.5 million so far in 2018, which has helped 100,000 children as part of its goal to get every child in the Los Angeles region access to sports, regardless of zip code.

“Play For All is about including all kids in this movement,” LA84 Foundation president and CEO Renata Simril said. “Whether that’s nontraditional sports for girls, or team sports for kids with physical disabilities, we seek community partners who are thinking about expanding sports opportunities in a multitude of new ways.''

The November grants went to 16 organizations, including a $172,000 grant will for THINK (Teaching, Helping, Inspiring & Nurturing Kids) Together to provide free competitive after school sports programs to over 5,300 middle school students at 48 public schools in underserved communities in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association received a $25,000 grant to fund their wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis programs, while the Youth n Motion Academy received a $24,500 grant that will help to fund an after-school martial arts and archery program.
